The automation of business processes: the ability to centralise critical information and eliminate redundant processes.

User convenience, timeliness and ability to conduct business 24/7, 365 days a year – People can now access information anytime and anywhere, through their wireless laptops and phones.

Compare LANs and WANs.

LAN: Local area networks is designed to connect a group of computers in close proximity to each other such as in an office building, a school, or a home. A LAN is essential to share resources such as a files, printers or other application.

WAN: A wide area network spans a large geographic area, such as a state, city or country. They connect multiple smaller networks such as LAN's. WAN's transmit speed a lot faster to LAN because of the amount of users it is catering to.

Describe RFID and how it can be used to help make a supply chain more effective.

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technologies use active or passive tags in the form of chips or smart labels that store unique identifiers and relay this information to electronic readers. RFID tags are mostly in smaller size compared to a grain of sand and combine tiny chips with an antenna. This, automatically radios its location to RFID readers on shop shelves, checkout counters, loading bay doors and shopping carts. These tags can cut cost by requiring fewer workers for scanning items and provide current and more accurate information to the entire supply chain.

Identify the advantages and disadvantage of deploying mobile technology.

 Social networking gets mobilised;

 Multi-function devices become cheaper and more versatile;

 Location-based services;

 Mobile advertising;

 Wireless providers move into home entertainment;

 Wireless security moves to the forefront;

 Enterprise mobility; and

 Mobile TV.
